Connect & Grow: and educational retreat for homeschool moms

Homeschooling Moms, you are invited to Connect & Grow Retreat, our very first homeschool 2-day conference and retreat!

We want to support you in your journey by offering practical ways to help with your homeschooling needs. A wide range of workshops have been planned with topics including teaching your children, managing your household, and understanding your limitations, plus much more!

The Connect & Grow Retreat will be a beautiful getaway to connect with other homeschool moms! Come and be refreshed, inspired, and renewed in your journey & role as mothers. You will meet moms who have been doing this for years and others who have just begun.

This retreat will take place at Simpson Park Camp in Romeo, MI. The camp has dorm lodging for all of our overnight guests, or if you are adventurous, there are campsites for tents (with electrical hookup) and RV parking (full hookups).

Ticket Options and Lodging:

Ticket options include with meals or without meals, as well as daytime and overnight options. It is very important that you read all ticket options and their descriptions for details.

If you are staying in the dorm lodging:

  • Each private room has one or two beds, a nightstand, lamp and chair.
  • Each shared room has 2 twin beds, a nightstand, lamp and chair.
  • All mattresses throughout camp have been recently upgraded.
  • All lodging has shared restrooms and one or two showers on each floor. There are additional restrooms and showers in two separate buildings not too far from the lodges”.

You will need to bring the following:

  • Bedding (including sheets, blankets, and pillows)
  • Toiletries
  • Hair dryer, etc.

*Wi-Fi is available throughout the camp

We suggest all attendees bring a notebook and a heart ready for encouragement in this journey we call homeschooling.

Friday, June 11

Check-in

1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
If you are camping or bringing an RV please come as close to 1pm as possible to allow for set-up time. If you are staying in a room, those will be assigned but please check-in by 3:00 pm so everyone has a chance to get settled before our opening session.

General Assembly #1

Welcome to our Connect & Grow Retreat! Meet the speakers and staff. They’ll share brief testimonies of their experiences of homeschooling.

Dinner Break

5:00 pm – 6:15 pm

Workshop: How to Protect your Child in the Age of Technology

About Lisa: Lisa has been teaching with Homeschool Connections for the past 10yrs. Some of her favorite subjects are writing, literature, grammar and history.
Lisa has been married for 35 years and has helped her husband author the books Parenting for Purity and Being Faithful to Your Future Spouse. They have spent the past 35 years in ministry to singles and families. They have 3 daughters,16-28, who were all homeschooled.

Workshop: Teaching the Younger Years (Kindergarten through 3rd Grade)

About Carrie: Carrie is the Director of Business Operations for Homeschool Connections. She’s been married to her husband Keith for 23 years; they have 3 children, ages 14, 18, and 20, and also recently gained a wonderful son in law. As a graduate of Oakland University, her background in HR Training Design aided her development of digital lesson plans sold worldwide. She coaches other homeschooling families on intentional parenting and navigating the school years, from curriculum planning, to transcripts, to resume development and determining post-secondary pathways. Carrie loves mentoring teens and young adults as they explore their identity and purpose.

Workshop: Organizing your Homeschool Life

Join in on this session for some practical organization tips when it comes to keeping track of records and when it comes to organizing your homeschool space.

Workshop: Helping your Child to Write and Love it

As the world becomes increasingly dependent on technology, communicating effectively through the written word is becoming one of the most important skills we can teach our children. In this workshop we will look at writing as a developmental process and how parents can help their children improve their skills.

  • When to delight and how to critique

Description: Do you ever wonder if you are covering all your bases when it comes to your child’s academics? Do you feel pressured & overwhelmed to teach them everything? Join in on this session to learn what you do and don’t need to teach. Also, what should land at the top of every homeschool mom’s list. You will leave feeling encouraged and your burden lightened when you realize that you don’t need to teach them everything at all.

Workshop: Homeschooling Mom’s Guide to Homemaking

Description: Practical tips, making dinner, cleaning, and homeschooling. ​How do we take on the education of our children, and maintain a healthy, happy home all at the same time. Ever feel like there is just too much to keep up on? Join in on this session for helpful and practical tips for staying on top of housework, meals, AND homeschool. Hint (take a deep breath)… you don’t have to do it all!

What is the purpose for this conference? We hope by the end of the conference you will have a better understanding about homeschooling, different styles, curriculum options, teaching multi levels, how to run a household, work and school your kids with confidence and most of learn to enjoy them.

Who is this conference for? All new and seasoned homeschooling moms are welcome!

Will there be time to form friendships? Yes, there will be plenty of free time to chat, ask questions, and enjoy some coffee.

How will this benefit me? You will surrounded by veteran homeschoolers who have a wealth of knowledge and can offer so many different ways to educate your children and teens.

Will I be able to relax and have fun? All sessions are optional (though recommended), so feel free to take a break. We all love to have fun!
