Written By: Matthew Hernandez
Commissioned in Buffalo, New York on Dec 16, the 440 million dollar warship was set to leave Montreal, Canada to go to Florida. Now the USS Little Rock is trapped in the ice in below freezing temperatures. The ship and its seventy crew members will be scheduled to leave in March. The crew members must stay on the ship until March to keep the ship in order and make sure the bottom is not cracking.

Staying Healthy: Medically
Written By: Kristofer Lockard
There are many things you can do to stay healthy. You should eat the right things. You should not eat or drink soda or energy drinks, such as Red Bull, Monster, Kickstart, or Rock Star. Energy drinks are very bad. Surely everyone has had these at one point. It is hard to stay healthy these days. With that being said, some food to try to stay away from are GMOs and corn. Try to stay away from corn because it is very bad for you it is indigestible.
You need a lot of exercise. It is very important. You do not need a gym membership to exercise, there are lots of things you can do in your very own house. Push-ups and sit-ups are things that you can do. You can even google more things. The best one you can do is go for a run. If you do have a gym membership, there a lot more things that you can do. Use what you have around.
Rochester Fire Department
Written By: Kristofer Lockard
ROCHESTER CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT was established in 1895 and has provided emergency services for over 123 years. To this day they are staffed 24 hours a day. At station 1 There are ten trucks in service, two special trucks, and three ambulances. One is an ALS ambulance and the other two are BLS ambulances. ALS is advanced life support and BLS is basic life support. The ALS truck always has a paramedic on board and one EMT. The BLS truck has two EMTs on board. There are also two engines. Engine 1 is one of the fire trucks. Engine 2 is pretty close to the same as Engine 1. There is also a rescue unit. The rescue 1 is a rolling workshop. There is also a ladder truck . It has a 100 foot ladder on board.
The department also has a cadet program. I am a cadet at the Rochester City Fire Department. As a cadet, you get CPR training and certification. and first aid. As cadet, we get to ride on calls such as medical and fire calls. It can be difficult at times, but at the end of the day it is a lot of fun. Cadets are part of their team.
Most fire departments are in need of more firefighters and EMTs. If you have a interest in becoming a firefighter or EMT, go to the OCC website. They have one of the best fire academies in the state.
“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” Review
Written By: Brandon Janicki
The eighth episode of the Star Wars saga has now been in theaters for over a month now and has racked up an amazing 1 billion dollars in less than three weeks. I’m sure almost all Star Wars fans have seen it by now, but just in case you haven’t seen it yet, I’ll make sure to leave out any spoilers. The movie starts off with the Resistance making an dramatic escape from their base, only to be attacked by the First Order. For the rest of the movie, we see the rest of the resistance trying to escape the clutches of Kylo Ren and the First Order. But that’s just one half of the movie, the scenes shift between the Resistance escaping, and Luke Skywalker training Rey. When Rey first arrives on the island, Luke is reluctant to teach Rey, but after several days of persuasion, he finally agrees to give her three lessons. After Rey completes her short but crucial training, she goes to face Kylo Ren and Supreme leader Snoke, ALONE! Find out what happens next by watching “The Last Jedi,” only in theaters.
NFL Playoffs/ and Super Bowl
Written By: Brandon Janicki
The NFL Conference Championships came to a close on January 21. Now all we have to do is wait for the biggest day in sports; Super Bowl Sunday. Super Bowl LII will arrive February 4 and air at 6:30 p.m. Before we get to that, I want to talk about the Conference Championships. The AFC Championship took place between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New England Patriots. The Jaguars were up 4 at the half, but the Patriots came back in the 4th quarter to make the final score 24-20, Patriots win. It was a good game by both teams. The NFC championships, on the other hand, was a win for the Eagles all the way, as they destroyed the Vikings 38-7. Both the Patriots and Eagles will be advancing to the Super Bowl.
Winter Fun
Written By: Andrea Ren
Wondering what to do for break? There are many winter sports to enjoy with friends and family. For example, you could take a ski trip. If you did not want to drive too far, you could go to Pine Knob. Their lift tickets run from $37 – 57 but that excludes rentals. Or, if you go the extra distance, Caberfae is a nice resort that has different levels of slopes, depending on how well you are. Adult and teen tickets run from $34 – 39 while kids and juniors run from $5 – 29, excluding rentals.
Healthy Food
Written By: Pedro Dixon
There is so much healthy food in the world and so much bad food. I don’t mean bad food, I mean bad ingredients and some of those ingredients are GMOs. Those are the worst! When you are shopping in a supermarket, that is something you do not want to buy.
You do want to buy a lot of fruit and also a lot of vegetables to make smoothies and also as a healthy snack if you are playing a sport or sitting at home. It will give you a lot of benefits such as good bacteria in your stomach and a boost to your immune system. If you do not want to make the smoothies or healthy snack, you can always go to healthy restaurants like Tropical Smoothie. They have very good smoothies and wraps of all kinds. The one I would suggest to get is the Bahama . It is packed full of goodness and is healthy too.
The best thing is that when you get a Tropical Smoothie and you like it, you can just go to the website and they will give you the recipe so you can make it at home. So stock up on your fruit and vegetables and have a fun healthy snack.
Also if you get your fruit and vegetables from Kroger or a public food store, I would suggest that you try going to a fruit and vegetable stand or an organic farm where they sell fresh fruit and veggies. When you are buying it, make sure there are no preservatives or anything bad on it.
What is Kombucha?
Written By: Pedro Dixon
Kombucha is a tea made from good bacteria, sugar, tea, and water. Kombucha tea is a slightly carbonated drink that is extremely good for the body. Kombucha has been around for a very long time and it was known to the Chinese as the drink of life. It is sort of like a really healthy pop. It is nice and carbonated and it even smells like pepsi.
