Outer Space News!

According to CNN, NASA claims to have discovered a “Zombie Planet” just last night. The first of its kind, this super long Supernova seems to explode in a glorious yellowish glow and then turn back into a red super giant. Scientist are unable to explain why the star will not die. Normally Super Novas last 100 days before fading into a white dwarf, however this special star is expected to shine bright somewhere in our galaxy for 300 years. The amount of light produced by a Super Nova is the equivalent to 100 million suns combined. The same star appears to have exploded in 1954, accounting for the brightness in the image, but appears dim in other years. Connected to what our society knows, our very sun could explode into a super nova.

Does anyone want to find a way to serve your community but are under the age of 18? Then I have the thing for you. My name is Kristofer Lockard. I am a cadet at the Rochester City Fire Department, RFD for short. As a cadethere at RFD, you get to do a lot of interesting things. For instance, you get to ride on an ambulance and fire trucks. You don’t just ride on them, but you also ride on real 911 calls. You are also a part of the team; it is like one big family. As a cadet, you are required to go to training every other Tuesday. Cadets also have an issued t-shirt or sweatshirt.
Cadets are allowed to be at the station in the hours between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm. Your first 90 days you are on a probation period. While on probation, you can only ride on calls with Shepp, one of the firemen, on duty. When you get free from probation, you can go and ride whenever you want you to learn a lot of interesting things. I highly recommend it for everyone

Upcoming Spring and Summer Movies
Written By: Brandon Janicki
If you are looking for something to do this summer, I would recommend taking a trip to the movie theater. That’s obviously no big trip, but the entertainment can be just as good, if not better than a vacation. Here’s a look at the biggest blockbuster movies coming in these following spring and summer months.
On April 27, comes the first big blockbuster of the year, “Avengers: Infinity War”. The third official Avengers title combines all the Avengers thus far to battle Thanos who is trying to destroy Earth and conquer the rest of the galaxy. You can already pre-order tickets to see the movie.
Next comes “Solo: A Star Wars Story”, which will make its way to theaters May 25. This Star Wars movie is not an officially titled episode like “The Last Jedi”, and does not follow the Skywalkers. Instead, it shows Han Solo’s story when he was younger, how he met Chewbacca, found the Falcon, and became a great pilot. This will be the tenth official live-action Star Wars movie to be released in theaters.
The last big blockbuster to arrive this summer is “Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom”. The movie takes place a year or two after Jurassic World. Owen Grady and Claire return to the island with a team to bring the dinosaurs off the island safely and transport them somewhere else. Jurassic World 2 arrives June 22.
These are not the only big movies coming out this summer, but the definite top 3 blockbusters, and the ones I recommend you watch the most.
Teenage Sleep Cycles
Written By: Andrea Ren
Do you get enough sleep at night? Most sleep experts agree that from the age of 12 to 17, teenagers need about nine hours of sleep a night. Their minds and bodies suffer when they do not get enough sleep that is needed. “Lack of sleep is linked to depression, anxiety, poor school performances and obesity,” says psychologist, Jean Twenge.
A new study, with Twenge as the lead, finds that U.S. teens are trading sleep for more phone time. They show that the number of teens who are losing sleep because of screen time dramatically rose between 2009 and 2015.
Twenge notes that, beginning around 2009, smartphone use among the general U.S. population went up sharply. Her team now suspects teen are increasingly foregoing sleep for texting, using social media or watching videos on their phones. Teens who used electronic devices at least five hours a day were 50 percent more likely not to get enough sleep, compared to students who spent only one hour a day on such devices.
Studies show, the light emitted by the screens can interfere with the body’s natural sleep-wake rhythms. Cell phones, tablets, and computers give off all colors of light. The light in the blue portion of the color spectrum ‘tricks the brain’ into thinking it is still daytime, making it harder to fall asleep.
“Use of electronic devices near bedtime ‘is a problem,'” says Kyla Wahlstrom. “When students turn their devices off to go to sleep, the brain needs about an hour to become sleepy.”
Some phones have a so-called “night shift” mode. It reduces the blue light that their screens emit. Still, Tweng points out, that change isn’t enough to erase the effects of late exposure to their screens. Those phones are “still too stimulating,” she says, “and could keep you from sleeping well.”
In addition, looking at your screen in the middle of the night, for example to scan an incoming text, also “wakes up your brain,” Wahlstrom adds. So even if you go right back to sleep, she says, you will have had fewer hours of quality sleep.
